Isaac is 6 Months Old!

(Okay, so he's almost 7 now, but I'm running behind.)

Anyway, he's completely adorable (but you already knew that)! He's sitting up alone for at least a minute at a time and has been stablizing himself better every day. He says, "Buh," a lot and has been saying other sylables. One time, our friend, Dan started to take a picture of Isaac and it sounded like Isaac said, "unka," when he looked at Dan (we call him "Uncle Dan"). We also thought he said something similar to "ever," one day after I said, "You're the best boy ever, ever, ever!"

We had Dan take some pictures for Isaac's 6 month birthday and we did some Easter ones, too. Enjoy!

Baby Boy is Half a Year Old!!!!

Yep! Isaac is 6 months old now. On Friday, his first tooth broke through and today (Sunday) the one next to it came through. Yesterday he said. "Boo?" and "Gwaaaaah," and had Matt and me and our friends, Dan and Lindsay laughing. This evening he said, "Th," which was pretty neat!

Grammy and Poppy came down for a visit and we had a great time. Here are some adorable vidoes and pictures from the day.

Praise God for our perfect boy!

Crappy Week

Ok, so this has been a really stressful, crappy week. This may be disjointed, but I just wanted to get it all off my chest.

Last Friday, Isaac had a teeny pimple above his lip. Saturday it was a little bigger and then Sunday morning it started to head-out. By Sunday afternoon, however, it started to swell. All afternoon and evening Sunday it kept swelling and Monday morning, he had a really fat lip. We took him to the doctor and he said it was a staph infection. Isaac needed a shot and antibiotics, the doctor needed to see him again the next day and I had to stop breastfeeding until in went away.

Throughout Monday and Tuesday it began to drain and at the appointment Tuesday, the docotor took a culture to see if he had MRSA (Methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus), which is resistant to pretty much all antibiotics and has potential to be very bad. Wednesday, it drained more and the swelling had gon down quite a bit.

Thursday morning the office called to tell us it was MRSA and the doctor wanted to see him that day. I was worried, but the swelling was waay, way down, so I figured he was fine. The doctor was glad the swelling was down and said that the culture showed that the antibiotic he had prescribed turned out to be perfect for fighting MRSA. It sounded like it was pretty much a crap-shoot as to which one would work, so Dr. Hanus was really happy. Thankfully, we didn't even have to pay for the appointment.

So, I was able to start breastfeeding again yesterday. His sore had been healed over for two days and the doctor figured it would be okay to resume breastfeeding. This morning, it hurt on one side and when I looked down, I saw a spot just like he had. Goody.

In and amonst all this, every part of my boday aches. Our bed is so old and in such bad shape that it makes my back hurt. I start off the morning in pain and then have to pick Isaac up a bunch throughout the day. If I could take a hot shower in the mornign ti would help, but because of Matt's stupid employer, his schedule is so intrusive! He works 12-8pm. We either have to wake up really early or stay up really late to spend time as a family. If we want to sleep in at all, we barely have time to be together. I really hate that place.

Anyway, the other thing that has made this week suck is that Matt's Great-Aunt Betty passed away on Monday and the funeral was this morning. It wasn't just about Aunt Betty, she was ready to go, it's just that it gets us thinking about out other ill or aging relatives. Matt's Uncle Lee has brain cancer and has been on chemo for a few months. The last time I saw him, he looked so old and tired that I wanted to weep. I am tired of watching me loved ones fade away and of losing them.

So that's my crap week. Here's hoping the next post will be something fun and happy.

Baby Sounds

Just wanted to share a little about the boy today. Isaac has said "buh" and "guh" a few times (more than usual) and did a "raspberry" twice! He never made that sound before today! He is so much more alert and vocal every day. It totally amazes me to watch him!

Love you all!

Playing Baby

Isaac is 5 months old today! He is growing so much! He is about 26 inches long (I haven't measured lately) and 15 1/2 pounds! As I'm typing, he's playing on his Rainforest Playmat. He really wiggles a lot, now! Lately, he seems to like pulling his legs up and trying to grab his feet (that's why he looks like he's doing a somersault in the picture). He likes to crouch and stand up (with help from us to balance, of course) and he's really trying to sit up. his stomach muscles can do it, but he can't stabilize himself, yet. Here is a video of him playing just a few minutes ago. Enjoy!

Five Months

My little boy, my first born son, the gift I have wished for my entire life, is five months old. I was thinking today that I have experienced a lot of ups and downs in my life and I started thinking about it in 5 month increments.

October 2008: I was in an operating room delivering Isaac Christopher Lopshire.

May 2008: I was celebrating my 7th wedding anniversary and was 5 months pregnant.

December 2007: I celebrated my last Christmas as a mother with no children (see Aug '04).

July 2007: I made a wedding cake and bridesmaid's dresses for a wedding at the Auburn-Cord-Deusenburg Museum!

February 2007: I thought I was going to lose my best friend to depression. (Thank God I didn't!)

September 2006: My sister got married to her high school sweetheart and I made several dresses and my very first wedding cake (Thanks for believing in me, Moo!).

April 2006: I was going through a deep depression following (what I thought had been) a second miscarriage.

November 2005: I was asked to create 13+ costumes for a large community theatre play.

June 2005: Matt and I started going to a new church in South Bend.

January 2005: I began to deal with the grief from my miscarriage.

August 2004: I found out I was 3 weeks pregnant and miscarrying and had to drop out of my college class 2 days before it started to have a D&C.

I really don't remember much detail before that - at least not month by month. I counted backward to figure out each month as I wrote this. I find it very interesting that each one contained a defining moment or situation for me - good or bad. I'm not sure how I feel about it all. I just know that all of these events have formed the person I am now. I would not be the mother I am now without all the garbage and gifts of the past. I am thankful far all of them.

I do wonder, however, what 5 months from now will bring...
